Leave your ombre hair behind this summer, and try the luxurious hair color trend that works for all the ladies… Ecaille, or also known as Tortoise Shell Hair. When you hear tortoise shell, you might think sunglasses (we totally did), but it’s basically a mix of rich color highlights, in various shades. So yes, just like those Ray Ban frames! If you think we’re trying to trick and confuse you with another trendy name for the same color technique, we’re not! Ecaille is just another version of ombré combined with the balayage technique, but much softer. The difference is that for tortoise shell (ecaille), you first richen up your natural color by either balayaging darker lowlights or dying your natural hair color to deepen it or add tone. Then, highlights are added on top and placed a bit higher than ombré. Basically, less dip-dye, and more natural looking dimension.
